For the week ended May 26, 2023, the local stock market as measured by the Combined Index advanced by 1.95%. The Main Market Index advanced by 2.15%, the Junior Market Index advanced by 0.10%, and the JSE USD Equities Index declined by 7.24%. During the week, Sygnus Real Estate Finance Limited was the largest gainer, rising by approximately 32.74% to close at $13.42. The biggest decliner was Ironrock Insurance Company Limited which fell by 26.00% to close at $1.85.
Small-cap stocks, reflecting those listed on the Junior Market Index are underperforming on a YTD basis, declining by 5.93%, relative to its Main Market counterpart which has declined by 5.29%.
For the week ended May 26, 2023, overall market activity resulted from trading in 126 stocks of which 52 advanced, 59 declined and 15 traded firm. Market volume amounted to 33,381,604 units valued at over $463,892,649.76. Paramount Trading (Jamaica) Limited was the volume leader with 28,036,663 units (20.81%), followed by Fosrich Company Limited with 18,817,782 units (13.97%), and Transjamaican Highway Limited with 16,964,046 units (12.59%).
