Local Equities Market
For the week ending November 3, 2023, the local stock market, measured by the Combined Index, declined by 0.85%. The Main Market Index declined by 0.80%, the Junior Market Index declined by 1.21%, and the JSE USD Equities Index advanced by 2.20%. During the week, tTech Limited was the largest gainer, rising by approximately 25.13% to close at $2.34. Sygnus Real Estate Financial Limited (JMD) was the biggest decliner, which fell by 12.86% to close at $10.37.
Large-cap stocks, reflecting those listed on the Main Market Index are underperforming on a YTD basis, declining by 12.09%, relative to its Junior Market counterpart which has declined by 2.84%.
For the week ending November 3, 2023, overall Market activity resulted from trading in 125 stocks of which 55 advanced, 63 declined and 7 traded firm. Market volume amounted to 128,358,644 units valued at over $581,980,432.42. Future Energy Source Company Limited was the volume leader with 56,399,245 units (43.69%), followed by Transjamaican Highway Limited with 7,769,125 units (6.02%), and by Indies Pharma Jamaica Limited with 6,601,223 units (5.11%).

Chairman of the Margaritaville Caribbean Group Ian Dear said the country will have to soon act with “absolute urgency” to address a tightening labour market with imported labour, particularly for entities operating in the hospitality sector, if the recent boom in the tourism industry is to be sustained. Dear, however, added that all avenues to use local labour must first be exhausted before any consideration is made to import workers.
